EXCLUSIVE: Oscar-nominated Brazilian producer Rodrigo Teixeira has boarded Mexican director Michelle Garza Cervera’s upcoming drama-thriller Ornamento.
The moves sees Teixeira collaborate with one of Mexico’s hottest rising writer-directors of the moment, who is widely acclaimed for her bold approach to horror and feminist themes.
News of the partnership comes as she finishes post-production on 20th Century Studios’ reimagining of The Hand That Rocks the Cradle, starring Maika Monroe and Mary Elizabeth Winstead.
Ornamento is adapted from the 2020 novel ‘Ornamental’ by Colombian writer Juan Cárdena, with Garza Cervera taking co-writing credits on the screenplay with Alejandra Moffat.
The tense drama follows a successful scientist who develops a revolutionary recreational drug that works only on women, awakening a powerful sense of ecstasy and pleasure even when nothing in their circumstances has changed.
A trial of the drug takes an unexpected turn, when he dangerously entangles one of his patients in his own marriage.
Production is set for 2026, with Teixeira producing under his RT Features banner, and CAA Media Finance and WME handling sales.
Garza Cervera made waves with debut feature Huesera: The Bone Woman, about a first-time mother who becomes entangled with occult forces, with the film establishing her as one of the most exciting new voices in genre cinema.
Co-written with Abia Castillo and produced by Machete and Disruptiva, the film world premiered at the 2022 Tribeca Film Festival and earned her both the Best New Narrative Director Award and the Nora Ephron Prize.
Upcoming film The Hand That Rocks the Cradle releases on on Hulu on October 22, while Garza Cervera is also attached to direct and produce Jawbone, a TV adaptation of Mónica Ojeda’s acclaimed coming-of-age horror novel.
Garza Cervera is represented by WME and Untitled Entertainment.
RT Features’ upcoming slate also includes Glaxo, directed by Benjamin Naishtat and starring Lali Espósito, Esteban Lamothe, and Marcelo Subiotto; Dominga Sotomayor’s La Perra, which has just revealed a cast featuring Selton Mello, and is currently in pre-production; and James Gray’s Paper Tiger, starring nominee Scarlett Johansson and Miles Teller, which recently wrapped.
The company is also in post-production on Wolves, directed by Rami Kodeih and inspired by the 2019 collapse of Lebanon’s banking system.
RT Features enjoyed success earlier this year as the producer of Walter Salles’ box office hit I’m Still Here, winner of the 2025 Academy Award for Best International Feature Film.
