HARTSELLE, Ala. (WHNT) — Many teachers across the Tennessee Valley go above and beyond for their students, and we want to recognize them — with our Education Honor Roll!
This week, we want to introduce you to Laura Smith, a Computer Science and STEM/Robotics teacher at Hartselle Junior High School.
The person who nominated Smith says that she is dedicated to her students and her pioneering leadership in STEM education.
Mrs. Smith has transformed the landscape of robotics and technology education at HJHS. As the Robotics Coach, she led not just one—but three teams—to the VEX Robotics World Championship in Dallas, Texas in May, marking a historic first for Hartselle City Schools.
Beyond competitions, Mrs. Smith creates a classroom environment where students are encouraged to problem-solve, collaborate, and think creatively. She is known for staying late after school to hold practices and offer support.
We visited Laura in her classroom, and you can watch his story above.
Do you know another teacher who goes above and beyond? Help us give them the spotlight they deserve by nominating them for the Educator Honor Roll Award. To nominate a teacher you know, click here!
