HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — A line of heavy showers and storms pushed through the Tennessee Valley Tuesday morning. With plenty of moisture in place, the storms were able to produce torrential rain during the morning commute.

Flash flooding, ponding on roads, and the rising of the local small creeks and streams were issues.

The National Weather Service has issued an Areal Flood Warning until 3:30 p.m. because of the heavy rain that moved through the area Tuesday morning. Counties included in the warning are Limestone, Lincoln, and Madison.

Between 2 and 5 inches of rain fell in the warning area, with light additional rain forecast in the next few hours. Some of the heaviest rain fell across northwest Madison and northeast Limestone counties.

The photos above were taken around 10:30 Tuesday morning by News 19 photojournalist James Hannum along West Limestone Road in Hazel Green.

Non-stop torrential rainfall led to the farmland near the roadway flooding and approaching the road.

The photos above were taken around 1:30 Tuesday afternoon by News 19 photojournalist James Hannum along Opp Reynolds Road. At one point, water completely covered the roadway because of the heavy rainfall.

Though the water had receded enough for the barricades to be taken down, there is still a steady stream of runoff and fast-moving water in the ditch along the road.

With another round of moderate to heavy rain in the forecast on Wednesday, flash flooding will be possible. Another threat to watch for will be downed weak trees due to strong winds.

Make sure to stick with the Weather Authority for the latest!
