PHOENIX — Discount grocery store Aldi is set to open another location in the Valley and will offer a special giveaway to shoppers at the grand opening next month.
Aldi will be opening a new store at Cotton Lane and Waddell Road in Surprise. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held at 8 a.m. on Oct. 2.
Shoppers will also be able to get a sneak peek inside the store the day before.
This will be the grocer’s second location in Surprise, as it already operates a location at Bell Road and the U.S. 60.
What giveaways will be offered at Aldi’s new store in Surprise?
The first 100 shoppers at the grand opening of the new store will be given a gift bag containing samples of popular products. The shoppers will also be given a gift card as part of Aldi’s Golden Ticket program. Seventy of the gift cards will be worth $10, 20 gift cards will be worth $25 and 10 gift cards will be worth $100.
Throughout the store’s opening weekend, between Oct. 2 and 5, shoppers will also be able to enter a drawing for a $500 gift card.
After the grand opening, the new Surprise location will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Is Aldi opening any more stores in Arizona?
Aldi will also be opening its first Arizona location outside of the Valley on Oct. 2.
A store will open near Florence Boulevard and Arizola Road in Casa Grande on that date.
The giveaways being offered at the Surprise store will also be offered at the Casa Grande store and a ribbon-cutting ceremony will also be held at 8 a.m.
Aldi opened its first Arizona locations in 2020 in Chandler and Goodyear. Once the new stores open on Oct. 2, Aldi will operate 15 stores in the Grand Canyon State.
Construction on a location at the South Bridge Marketplace in Maricopa is expected to start later this year, developer Thompson Thrift said in August.
Aldi aiming for major growth in the U.S.
Aldi, which was founded in Germany in 1913, is quickly expanding its presence around the United States.
Since opening its first U.S. store in Iowa in 1976, Aldi has grown to more than 2,500 locations in 39 states.
The company announced in February that it is planning on opening 225 stores by the end of this year, which would be “the most stores Aldi will open in one year in its nearly 50-year U.S. history,” according to a press release.
This is part of the company’s commitment to opening 800 new stores by the end of 2028, an initiative that was announced in 2024.
That would bring the total number of Aldi locations nationwide to nearly 3,200.
