LIMESTONE COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) — A former Limestone County Corrections Officer has been sentenced to prison after being charged with bribery.
The U.S. Department of Justice said that John Paul Ketteman, 28, of Huntsville, was sentenced to 15 months, or 1.25 years in prison for accepting a bribe by an agent of an organization receiving federal funds.
According to the plea agreement, Ketteman was employed as a corrections officer at the Alabama Department of Correction’s Limestone Correctional Facility in Harvest, Alabama.
The Department of Justice said that Ketteman’s job duties included inspecting prison cells for contraband and supervising inmates.
In the Fall of 2022, ADOC’s Law Enforcement Services Division launched an investigation into contraband being smuggled into the Limestone Facility by corrections officers.
John Paul Ketteman was one of four men employed by ADOC who resigned on November 22 after being charged with bribery of public servants and using their position for personal gain.
As part of the investigation, Cash App records were obtained for Ketteman’s account. Ketteman’s records revealed that in less than three months in 2022, Ketteman was paid more than $10,000 to smuggle contraband into the Limestone Facility and to act as a lookout.
The case was investigated by the FBI and the Secret Service. ADOC’s Law Enforcement Services Division also assisted during the case.
