A man was killed Friday afternoon after being struck by a semi-truck while walking in the roadway in Long Beach, authorities said.
According to the Long Beach Police Department, officers were called around 4:05 p.m. on Sept. 19 to the area of 67th Street and Paramount Boulevard for reports of a collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian. When officers arrived, they found an unconscious adult man lying in the street. Long Beach Fire Department personnel attempted lifesaving measures, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
Detectives with the department’s Collision Investigation Detail determined that the pedestrian had been walking northbound in the middle of the roadway, outside of a marked crosswalk, when a southbound 2019 International semi-truck struck him.
The truck’s driver, a 51-year-old Long Beach resident, stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Police said neither speed nor distracted or impaired driving appeared to be factors in the crash.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner is working to identify the man and notify his next of kin.
Anyone who witnessed the collision is urged to contact Detective Ashley Van Holland at (562) 570-7355. Anonymous tips can also be submitted through L.A. Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-8477 or going online.
