EXCLUSIVE: Making Manson producer Renowned Films has promoted Robert Hunter to Head of Development, Documentary & Limited Series, while development boss Chris Broughall is set to exit.
Hunter takes on the newly-created role as the biz looks to pivot further towards limited series. He will build out a development team with at least two hires, working on an expansion of blockbuster box-set series and access-led factual shows. Those new hires will report to Hunter and Director of Television Kate Maddigan, who has taken on an expanded creative strategy remit after overseeing Renowned’s slate of streamer series as the companies dedicated exec producer.
Renowned, which is based in London and L.A., makes the likes of Making Manson, My Son Jeffrey: The Dahmer Family Tapes and the upcoming Dirty Rotten Scandals: The Dr. Phil Show for E!. Critical Content is an investor. Renowned said it has three new streamer series in production for 2026, with additional projects set to be announced next year.
Hunter has been with Renowned for seven years. Going forwards, he will split his time between L.A. and London and report to co-founders Max Welch, Duane Jones.
Broughall is exiting in November to pursue new ventures after joining from Just Tattoo of Us producer Gobstopper in 2019. His role will be eliminated.
“As Renowned has grown and achieved standout wins in the U.S. and worldwide marketplace, it was time to sharpen our focus on the documentary and limited-series arenas even further,” said Welch, Jones and co-founder Tim Withers. “Robert’s track record and longstanding contribution to Renowned’s blockbuster boxset series, will be even more central to our next phase of development. We pride ourself on hiring and promoting the most dynamic, disruptive and future thinking talented minds so we can continue to push boundaries.”
