EXCLUSIVE: Gina Torres (9-1-1: Lone Star, Suits) has joined the cast of Fox’s upcoming drama series Memory of a Killer in a heavily recurring role working opposite Patrick Dempsey.
Inspired by the 2003 award-winning Belgian film De Zaak Alzheimer, Memory of a Killer is a dramatic thriller starring Dempsey as hitman, Angelo Doyle, leading a dangerous double life while hiding an even deadlier personal secret — he has developed early onset Alzheimer’s. Michael Imperioli plays Dutch, Angelo’s oldest friend and an accomplished chef whose restaurant is a front for criminal enterprise.
Torres will play Linda Grant, a mercurial, seasoned, and brilliantly tenacious FBI Agent who becomes a major antagonist for Angelo across Season 1. When Grant begins investigating one of Angelo’s kills, it puts them on a collision course that will see Grant come perilously close to unmasking Angelo’s many secrets and threatening everything he holds dear.
The series also stars Richard Harmon as Joe, a hitman; Odeya Rush as Maria, Angelo’s daughter; Daniel David Stewart as Jeff, Maria’s husband; and Peter Gadiot as Dave, a local police detective.
Memory of a Killer is produced by Warner Bros. Television and Fox Entertainment. The series is from Ed Whitmore and Tracey Malone, who executive produce alongside Cathy Schulman of Welle Entertainment and David Schulner. Schulner will co-showrun the project alongside Ed Whitmore and Tracey Malone. Arthur Sarkissian and Martin Campbell are also executive producers, along with Peter Bouckaert of Eyeworks.
Torres is best known for playing Jessica Pearson on USA Network’s hit original series Suits. She broke boundaries when, in 2019, she became the first Afro-Latina to create, star in, and produce a TV series, Pearson, a Suits franchise series, which saw her character Jessica take on the world of Chicago politics. For her portrayal, Torres received multiple accolades. Included amongst Torres’s most notable TV credits are her performances as the Russo-Cuban assassin Anna Espinosa on Alias, the shotgun-toting mercenary Zoe Washburn on Joss Whedon’s Firefly (a role she reprised in the feature film Serenity), and the soul-eating Jasmine on Whedon’s Angel.
Most recently, Torres was seen in Fox’s 9-1-1: Lone Star playing paramedic captain Tommy Vega, who answered a call to action and returned to work amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. In November 2022, Torres received the Actress Award for Television at the 2 nd Annual Critics’ Choice Celebration of Latino Cinema & Television for her role on the series. Torres also recently portrayed Kepper Yennen in Prime Video’s animated series The Legend of Vox Machina and Ms. Moreno in the Disney+ animated series Kindergarten: The Musical.
On the film side, Torres starred as Darcy, a cutthroat fashion mogul, in Netflix’s The Perfect Find, just one of her many film credits across her 30-year career. She is repped by Framework Entertainment, Realm Talent, and Schreck Rose Dapello and Adams
