NEW MARKET, Ala. (WHNT) — For this week’s News 19’s Student of the Week our Ellie Byrd headed to Buckhorn High School to meet Senior Devin Hendricks who excels in every area and stays humble while doing it.
At Buckhorn High School, senior Devin Hendricks is the kind of student who seems to do it all — and somehow, he makes it look effortless.
Devin is enrolled in nearly every AP course the school offers, is a straight-A student, and serves as president of the National Science Honor Society as well as a leader in the National Honor Society. His drive for success is matched only by his love for learning.
“Devin is one of those students who just naturally shines,” said one of his teachers. “He’s respectful, humble, and makes everyone around him better. He doesn’t need to seek attention — it just finds him.”
But there’s more to Devin than his academic résumé. Teachers say he is the kind of student who takes time to connect with others, never hesitating to help a classmate with a tough assignment or offer encouragement to someone having a hard day.
“He leads by example,” another teacher shared. “He’s the kind of student who encourages others to work harder just by the way he carries himself. He’s proof that you can be brilliant and still be kind.”
When he’s not in the classroom or leading a meeting, Devin enjoys spending time with friends, volunteering in the community, and exploring new areas of science and technology. Those close to him say he has a quiet confidence that inspires those around him.
For Devin, it’s not about the accolades — it’s about what’s ahead. His next goal? Vanderbilt University.
“I just love learning and being involved,” Devin said with a smile. “I’m excited about the future, and hopefully, that’s at Vanderbilt.”
Buckhorn High School is proud to call Devin one of their own — and if his track record is any indication, his bright future is just getting started.
