UPDATE (12:40 p.m.): Hockey is officially returning to the Port City.
Zawyer Sports and Entertainment, the owner and operator of Mobile’s new franchise, made the announcement on Wednesday, Sept. 17.
The team will debut during the 2027-2028 season at the Mobile Arena, following the Southern Professional Hockey League Board of Governors’ approval of the city’s admittance application.
“What’s going to be inside that brand new arena? As you just heard, a brand-new team…hockey! The best is yet to come,” President of the Mobile City Council, CJ Small, said.

The Oak View Group will be managing the new arena, not set to open until early 2027.

MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — City of Mobile officials have announced that a Southern Professional Hockey League team will be coming to the city.
This isn’t the first time the city has had a hockey team — the Mobile Mysticks were around for seven seasons between 1995 and 2002.
The announcement took place on Wednesday afternoon during a press conference at the Arthur R. Outlaw Mobile Convention Center.
The Mobile Mysticks were part of the East Coast Hockey League.
