Police are searching for a suspect after a man was shot to death in South L.A.
On Sept. 15, Los Angeles police responded to a shopping plaza near South Figueroa Street and Slauson Avenue in the Vermont-Slauson neighborhood around 10:30 p.m.
Arriving officers found a 28-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound at the scene. Officers performed CPR on the unresponsive man while awaiting paramedics. He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The shooter fled the scene before police arrived. The motive behind the shooting remains unclear and detectives are investigating whether the incident was gang-related.
The small shopping plaza was cordoned off by police tape as bystanders and the victim’s friends and family members remained at the scene.
Homicide detectives are canvassing the area for witnesses and reviewing nearby surveillance footage for leads on the suspect who remains at large.
The victim’s identity was not released.
