Christmas will come early to the U.K. this year with the release of Gurinder Chadha’s Christmas Karma by True Brit Entertainment on November 14, and Deadline can unveil the trailer
The feel-good, musical adaptation of the Charles Dickens classic A Christmas Carol stars The Big Bang Theory’s Kunal Nayyar as modern-day Scrooge, Mr. Sood, with Eva Longoria, Billy Porter and Boy George playing the three ghosts of Christmas.
Bend It Like Beckham and Blinded By The Light director Chadha has transposed the story to contemporary London and added a backstory to mean-spirited Mr. Sood, in which he has buried the childhood trauma of being expelled from Uganda with the rest of its Indian community in the 1970s.
The cast also stars Leo Suter, Pixie Lott, Charithra Chandran, Danny Dyer and Hugh Bonneville.
The soundtrack influenced by Gospel, Bhangra, Christmas carols, rap and classic pop, features music from Take That’s Gary Barlow, Nitin Sawhney, Shaznay Lewis, Ben Cullum, Panjabi MC and Malkit Singh.
Chadha wrote the screenplay and is also producing alongside directing the film which is backed by Civic Studios.
Chadha, Celine Rattray, Trudie Styler, and Amory Leader produce. True Brit Entertainment CEO and founder Zygi Kamasa, Anushka Shah, Paul Mayeda Berges, Sophia Pedlow, and Hannah Leader are executive producers.
The feature sees Chadha return to the big screen for the first time following her work on the Indian historical television series Beecham House. Her last feature film, Blinded by the Light, inspired by the music of Bruce Springsteen, debuted at Sundance in 2019.
