As accolades and tributes continue to pour in after news of the passing of legendary actor and director Robert Redford, one show of sympathy is missing.
There won’t be any flowers placed along Hollywood’s world-renowned Walk of Fame, because Robert Redford doesn’t have a star.
The Hollywood Chamber confirms that not only didn’t Redford have a star, but he was never nominated for one- despite a career from “Ordinary People” to “All The President’s Men” and “The Natural” that saw Oscars, SAG Awards, BAFTA awards, Kennedy Center Honors, and even the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
The Walk of Fame has specific criteria for nominations including professional achievement, career longevity, and contributions to the community. The celebrity must also confirm they’ll be able to attend the ceremony.
We still don’t know why Redford never got nominated. Ana Martinez with the Hollywood Chamber, who is all things Walk Of Fame related, confirms he was always on her wish list.
It’s possible— he just wasn’t interested.
Interestingly, it’s also possible though—that he might get a star in the future—if he’s nominated, and if his family agrees to it.
Yes, there ARE posthumous awards given out, but they require a 2-year waiting period after a celebrity’s death, (it used to be a 5-year waiting period).
The Walk of Fame now boasts more than 2,000 stars—and continues to add stars at a rate of about two a month.
