Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) filed a resolution Monday to censure Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) and strip the “Squad” lawmaker of all her committee assignments over “vile comments mocking the assassination” of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
“Ilhan Omar has shown us exactly who she is: someone who defends political violence and refuses to condemn the loss of innocent lives when it doesn’t suit her agenda, even the cold-blooded assassination of Charlie Kirk,” Mace said in a statement.
“If you mock a political assassination and celebrate murder, you don’t get to keep your committee seat, you get consequences,” the congresswoman added.
One day after Kirk was gunned down, Omar groused over the outpouring of admiration for the slain Turning Point USA founder.
“There are a lot of people who are talking about him [Kirk] just wanting to have a civil debate,” Omar sneered in a Sept. 11 interview with progressive outlet Zeteo. “These people are full of s—t and it’s important for us to call them out while we feel anger and sadness.”
“There is nothing more f—ked up than to pretend that his words and actions haven’t been recorded and in existence for the last decade or so,” the Minnesota Democrat added, further accusing Kirk of posting “hateful rhetoric” on social media.
Omar later shared a separate video on X slamming Democrats and celebrities for “normalizing Kirk.” The video also describes the conservative influencer as a “reprehensible human being” and a “stochastic terrorist.”
Mace’s office said Omar’s remarks and social media posts “demeaned Charlie Kirk, belittled his grieving family, and all but blamed him for his own assassination.”
The South Carolina Republican’s resolution calls for a full House vote on censuring Omar, and for the congresswoman to stand in the well of the lower chamber – if the measure passes – as she is reprimanded by Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.).
Omar would also be removed from her posts on the House Budget Committee and House Education and Workforce Committee.
President Trump told reporters in the Oval Office Monday that he agreed Omar should be stripped of her committee assignments.
“I think she’s a disgraceful person,” the president said. “You know, I think she’s a disgraceful person, a loser. It’s amazing the way people vote — I know it’s people from her area, maybe all over the world. They got here, and they vote her in. It’s hard to believe, but I think she’s a disgusting person.”
Rep. Al Green (D-Texas) was censured by a bipartisan group of House lawmakers earlier this year for disrupting President Trump’s address to Congress.
In 2023, both Former Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) – for amplifying claims that Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign colluded with Russia – and ex- Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-NY) – for pulling a fire alarm in the Capitol complex during the middle of consideration of a resolution to avert a government shutdown – were censured.
Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) was also censured that year for defending Hamas’ Oct. 7, 2023 terror attack against Israel as “resistance” and calling for the destruction of the Jewish state.
If Mace’s resolution passes, Omar would be the 29th lawmaker in US history to be censured.
Omar’s office did not respond to The Post’s request for comment.
