PHOENIX — A 45-year-old Mesa man will soon face sentencing for various child sexual exploitation charges, authorities announced Tuesday.
The Arizona Attorney General’s Office said Christopher Daniel Votey sent an undercover law enforcement officer multiple images and videos of children being sexually exploited.
Later, he admitted to law enforcement that he viewed and distributed child sexual abuse content through various apps and websites.
When will Mesa man be sentenced for child sexual exploitation charges?
The Arizona grand jury indicted him on seven counts of sexual exploitation of a minor under 15 on April 1, 2024.
Votey pleaded guilty to one count of sexual exploitation of a minor and two counts of trying to sexually exploit a minor on July 25.
His sentencing is scheduled for Oct. 27, 2025.
Cases like Votey’s highlight the importance of trauma-informed support systems for victims and the role of law enforcement in addressing sexual exploitation.
The Mesa Family Advocacy Center, which is within the Mesa Police Department, provides information and support to victims. According to its website, detectives are trained to be knowledgeable and sensitive about trauma cases of sexual and physical abuse.
The Phoenix Police Department has also stepped up resources to battle domestic and sexual violence this decade, supporting agencies such as the National Domestic Violence Hotline and the Arizona Coalition to End Sexual & Domestic Violence.
