5000 Spring/Summer 2026 Focuses on “Good Design”

Just a few days before 5000‘s appointment-only presentation on Friday, Taylor Thompson nabbed a nomination for the CFDA‘s Emerging Designer of the Year Fashion Award. Yet he still brought his contagious Oakland ease to the High Line showroom, where his Spring/Summer 2026 was staged simply on a line of silver racks in the minimalist, all-white room.

The location was a key factor in bringing this collection across the country from its West Coast birthplace to its second home of NYC, where its masterful melding of breezy functionality and sleek sartorial menswear references fits right in.

Guided by the principles of “good design,” and how it “brings the ease into the everyday,” Thompson’s new collection is shaped by “restraint, proportion, and a reverence for space,” seeking specifically to craft garments that “create stillness” as well as “allow space for clarity, balance, and quiet.”

“Each garment considers not only the form itself, but the intervals between: the quiet held in a fold of fabric, the openness created by a silhouette, the pause between precision and fluidity,” read the collection’s notes. “In these moments, the clothing becomes less about decoration and more about presence.”

Classic tailoring tropes are placed up against new forms of layering and drapery. Hybridized pieces literally Frankenstein two silhouettes into one, such as sleek bomber jackets that come physically attached to a more sophisticated lapelled blazer inside.

“The palette emphasizes serenity — muted earths, softened nylon, and subtle noir that reflect light gently, offering calm rather than spectacle.”

Take a closer look at 5000’s Spring/Summer 2026 collection in the lookbook above and keep up with Hypebeast for continuing New York Fashion Week coverage.
