On Sunday night fans of Apple TV+ comedy The Studio were asking, Why didn’t anyone thank Sal Saperstein? After all, the show’s “Golden Globes” episode had a running bit on exactly that.

In that episode featuring the awards show, Seth Rogen‘s beleaguered studio exec Matt Remick is devastated when his fellow exec Sal Saperstein, played by Ike Barinholtz, is repeatedly thanked by stars in their acceptance speeches, including by the show’s guest star Zoë Kravitz, playing herself.

Following a total of 13 wins for The Studio Sunday night, including for Comedy Series and for Rogen as Lead Actor in a Comedy, not one person thanked the fictional Saperstein! Backstage, speaking to the press, Rogen explained why.

“It’s our own joke,” he said. “It feels weird to reference your own joke in my opinion.”

“I’m very disappointed,” Barinholtz cut in.

Rogen was also asked if Apple CEO Tim Cook will join the long list of The Studio‘s guest stars, for Season 2. Rogen said, “I met him last night for the first time, and he said he was a fan of the show, which was very nice. I’m on another show on Apple [Platonic]. He didn’t say he was a fan of that one. So, I believed him. We know he’s honest, and I don’t know, I hope we all get free iPhones out of this or something.”

In the wake of all the Emmy wins for The Studio Season 1, Rogen also said he was going to “follow up” with a bunch of celebrities on his recruiting mission for Season 2 big name guest stars. “I hope if anyone was on the fence, this would maybe kick them over to the other side, but I don’t know,” he said. “So far it’s, it’s been the same, I would say, but yeah, there’s a few people I’m gonna follow up with tomorrow with a little more bounce in my step than maybe I had before. Literally, as I was standing on the stage, I was looking out at the crowd, being like, ‘Oh, maybe he’ll do it now.’ I do hope to parlay this into better episodes next year.”
