EXCLUSIVE: Live-action CoComelon series The Melon Patch is premiering on September 23, and here’s an exclusive first-look behind-the-scenes video.
The featurette above includes behind-the-scenes video and details on the cast as they discuss how the series adds STEM concepts into kids’ content adventures. It also includes insight from early childhood education consultant and The Melon Patch collaborator Dr. Natascha Crandall.
The Melon Patch centers on Ms. Appleberry, CoComelon’s beloved music teacher, who leads a classroom with warmth, curiosity, and songs to help children learn and have fun. Each episode runs to 25 minutes, blending music, storytelling, movement and art. Allie Rivera Quiñonez will play the role.
“As a mom and step-mom myself, playing such a warm beloved character like Ms. Appleberry has been truly a gift,” said Rivera Quiñonez. “I know how valuable a show that makes learning feel fun through music and play can be, and I can’t wait for families to discover all the songs, activities, and surprises The Melon Patch has in store.
Joining Ms. Appleberry are imaginative art teacher Mr. Doodad (David Reynolds); Mr. Acorn (Jalen Jaleel), a nature and exploration expert; and Ms. Twist, (Jordyn Waldo) an energetic dance and movement instructor. These are all new characters created for the live-action series.
Ms. Appleberry and guest teachers will teach cognitive skills modeled by CoComelon characters, along with life skills and independence. There will also be segments on social-emotional development, and language and communication. Ms. Twist will lead on gross motor activities like dance and games, while Mr. Dooddad supports fine motor skills with creative crafts and tactile play.
Preschool title CoComelon is one of the most popular series on YouTube, nearing 200 million subscribers, and regularly gains up to billion streams a month. It’s also distributed on Netflix, though it will transfer to Disney+ in January 2027. Universal Pictures will release an animated feature in 2027 after CoComelon parent Moonbug Entertainment, which is part of Candle Media, and Flywheel Media greenlit the pic in May.
“We’re excited for audiences to experience The Melon Patch, where music, play, and learning come alive,” said Nicole Rivera, Senior Creative Executive at CoComelon. “Its engaging, play-along curriculum is relatable for kids and rewarding for parents, bringing CoComelon to life in a whole new way.”
