PHOENIX — From memorial service plans for Charlie Kirk being announced to Black Rock Coffee Bar debuting as a public company, here are some of the top Arizona news stories from Sept. 12-14.


Memorial service for Charlie Kirk to be held at State Farm Stadium

The plans for Charlie Kirk’s memorial service were announced by Turning Point USA, the company he co-founded, on Saturday afternoon.

The group said that Kirk’s funeral will be held next Sunday, Sept. 21, at State Farm Stadium in Glendale. Doors for the service will open at 8 a.m. and the program will begin at 11 a.m.

President Donald Trump told reporters on Thursday that he plans to travel to Arizona to attend the funeral.


Scottsdale-based Black Rock Coffee Bar goes public, valuation soars after IPO

Scottsdale-based Black Rock Coffee Bar made its debut as a public company on Friday, and share prices surged 38% after the IPO.

The coffee chain initially priced shares at $20, but shares closed at $27.53 and climbed as high as $29.50 on the first day of trading. Black Rock now has a market value of about $1.32 billion.

In the initial public offering, $294.1 million was raised after about 14.7 million shares were initially sold for the company, which is trading under the ticker symbol “BRCB” on the Nasdaq Global Market.


Homebuilder breaks ground on next phase of luxury Scottsdale golf course community

A homebuilder broke ground for the next phase of the Villas II luxury golf community at Seven Desert Mountain on Tuesday.

Camelot Homes announced the Villas II at Desert Mountain community earlier this year as a sequel to Camelot Homes’ Villas at Desert Mountain. All of the 23 homes in the new community neighbor hole No. 7 at Desert Mountain.

A groundbreaking ceremony attended by Scottsdale Mayor Lisa Borowsky, representatives from Desert Mountain Club, the Scottsdale Chamber of Commerce and Camelot Homes was held on Tuesday.


Tempe moves historic Walker House to preserve 1903 structure

To preserve a historic museum, the Walker House was recently moved about four blocks from its original century-old location, the city of Tempe announced Thursday.

Moving company Wolfe House & Building Movers lifted the entire structure that dates back to 1903 over next to Tempe City Hall on 5th Street and Mill Avenue.

Its original home was at Seventh Street and Forest Avenue, where it also housed part of a city favorite restaurant, House of Tricks.


3 hospitalized after shooting at Phoenix apartment complex, suspect detained

Three people were taken to a hospital Saturday afternoon following a shooting at a Phoenix apartment complex, authorities said.

Officers responded to reports of a shooting at an apartment near 48th and Culver streets around 12:45 p.m., according to the Phoenix Police Department.

When officers arrived at the complex, they found three adults suffering from gunshot wounds. Each person had serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.
