An Office Depot worker who was caught on camera refusing to fulfill an order for flyers advertising a vigil for slain conservative firebrand Charlie Kirk has been fired, the company said.
The Boca Raton-based office supply chain said it was “deeply concerned by the unfortunate customer experience” that took place at its Portage, Michigan store.
“The behavior displayed by our associate is completely unacceptable and insensitive, violates our company policies, and does not reflect the values we uphold at Office Depot,” the company said in a statement to Fox News Friday night.
“On behalf of the Company, we sincerely apologize for this regrettable situation.”
The retailer also said it had reached out to the customer as soon as it learned of the incident “to address their concerns and seek to fulfill their order to their satisfaction,” and vowed to continue investigating the incident, according to Fox News.
Video of the Friday incident has amassed more than 4.4 million views since it was posted online Friday evening.
In the clip, a person can be heard asking a trio of store employees about an order they came to pick up.
“Yeah, so, we don’t print propaganda,” a woman who identifies herself as a store manager can be heard telling the customer.
“It’s propaganda. I’m sorry. We don’t print that here,” she continues in the 48-second-long video, which was posted by Michigan Forward Network, a conservative political advocacy group.
When the person recording asks what makes the posters propaganda, the worker replied, “Because he’s a political figure and I don’t have to,” before another employee interjects to say the general manager would be in on Monday.
The posters included the phrase, “The Legendary Charlie Kirk 1993-2025” over a black-and-white image of Kirk, 31, who was shot dead while speaking at a Turning Point USA event at Utah Valley University on Wednesday, allegedly by 22-year-old Utah man Tyler Robinson.
The video sparked fierce backlash online, where thousands of commenters called on the retailer to act.
Office Depot did not immediately return a message seeking comment.
