The Green Bay Packers’ worst fears for wide receiver Jayden Reed have come true.

After exiting the Packers’ 27-18 win over the Washington Commanders on “Thursday Night Football,” Reed was ruled out with an apparent shoulder injury.

Head coach Matt LaFleur offered more detail after the game — and they will have to make do without Reed for some time.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported late Thursday night that LaFleur confirmed Reed suffered a fractured collarbone and he is expected to be placed on the injured reserve list.

“He’s headed for Injured Reserve and out for the foreseeable future. They do expect him back this season,” Rapoport added in a post on X. “The hope is that it’s a 6-8 week injury for Jayden Reed, which would bring him back in November.”

Reed suffered the injury on the game’s opening drive, catching a 39-yard pass in the end zone that was called back due to an offensive holding penalty.

It’s an unfortunate development for Reed, a 2023 second-round pick, who was coming off a stellar Week 1 performance, catching three passes for 45 yards and a touchdown.

The Packers are already thin at wide receiver with Christian Watson still recovering from an ACL injury he sustained last year. Watson signed a contract extension this week, a gesture by Green Bay that he does not need to rush back into action until he’s fully recovered.

That won’t stop the calls for Watson to return swiftly, given Reed’s long-term absence. Green Bay has the looks of a true contender and cannot afford to take a step back while its receiver room is on the mend.

But until Watson and Reed’s return, Matthew Golden, Romeo Doubs, and Dontayvion Wicks look to pick up the slack and help Jordan Love lead the passing game.
