Right-wing influencers are clinging to conspiracy theories as they struggle to make sense of the brazen assassination of one of their own.
In the wake of the horrific shooting of far-right activist Charlie Kirk, 31, at a campus event in Utah, social media sleuths quickly zeroed in on Provo Airport, a small regional hub just ten minutes from campus.
Despite a widespread manhunt for the killer on Wednesday, the airspace wasn’t closed after the shooting, the Daily Mail noted.

The MAGA-verse is now raising questions over a private jet that left the airport shortly after the shooting. Per the Daily Mail, the jet returned to Provo an hour later.
With few confirmed details from law enforcement, right-wing influencers have latched onto the airport.
“Hey FBI Director Kash [Patel] – I know this is a waste of time as you do nothing but talk, but just in case you’re not a totally useless POS you should really look into this,” wrote one account on X called Charlie’s Revenge.

Another viral post from a user with over 200,000 followers added: “WTF… A Private Jet left Provo Airport, which is a 12-minute drive from Utah Valley University, an hour after Charlie Kirk was shot. 30 minutes into the Flight, the Plane ILLEGALLY dropped off its ADS-B (which shows its Location, Altitude and Speed to Air Traffic Control), and reappeared 45 minutes later, heading back to Provo.”

The post brazenly ended with: “Is this Plane connected to the Shooter??”
The Daily Beast has reached out to the FAA and the FBI.
The swirl of conspiracies are, in some ways, a page out of Kirk’s own playbook. The Turning Point USA founder spent years peddling misinformation—from COVID-19 denialism to baseless claims about transgender shooters.
But even as speculation runs wild online, the real investigation appears stalled.
FBI Director Kash Patel is in the hot seat over the lack of progress on the case. The shooter remains at large after FBI and local officers each claimed to have arrested Kirk’s killer, only for both people detained to be released.
Kirk was speaking about trans issues and mass shootings when he was shot in the neck. His stop at the university in Orem, Utah, was one of many he had scheduled as part of what he dubbed the “American Comeback Tour.” The tour was put on by Turning Point USA, the conservative group he founded.
There has been an outpouring of prayers for Kirk, as well as for his wife and two young children. Trump announced his death on Truth Social about two and a half hours after the shot rang out.
“Charlie was a giant of his generation, a champion of liberty and an inspiration to millions and millions of people,” Trump said.
