Tokyo Gap Financing Market, an event that takes places during TIFFCOM (October 29-31) to help feature-length film projects complete their financing, has selected 23 projects for this year’s edition.

The line-up includes several projects from Southeast Asian filmmakers, including Four Seasons In Java from Indonesia’s Kamila Andini; 1982 from Vietnam’s Diep Nguyen Hoang; and two projects from the Philippines – Filipinana directed by Rafael Manuel and Hum, directed by Don Josephus Raphael Eblahan and produced by Alemberg Ang.

Several projects are being set up as co-productions with Japan, including a Japan-Korea manga adaptation directed by Korea’s Jang Kun-jae; a Japan-Taiwan project from Natsuki Seta (Diary Of A Strange Land); and a Spain-Japan co-production directed by Pedro Collantes and set in Tokyo.

Five animation projects have also been selected, including two that are being produced in the rapidly growing Southeast Asian animation industry – from the Philippines’ John Aurthur Mercader and Indonesian director Ronny Gani – and a highly-anticipated collaboration between Genco Inc (In This Corner Of The World) and director Ayumu Watanabe, who is known for his work on numerous Doraemon films.

Following the signing of the Japan-Italy Film Co-production Agreement, the line-up also includes three Italian projects specially selected through the Directorate General for Cinema and Audiovisual of Italy’s Ministry of Culture and Cinecitta (see full list below).

TGFM selects projects that have secured at least 60% of their entire budget and contain Asian elements. During the three-day TIFFCOM contents market, they are provided with one-on-one meeting opportunities with industry professionals to enable them to close their financing and pursue distribution opportunities.
