EXCLUSIVE: Amazon MGM Studios is developing a TV adaptation of Freida McFadden’s novel Dear Debbie with Gina Girolamo (You, Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin) attached as executive producer under her Strega Stories banner. Girolamo is under a new TV overall deal with the studio.
Debbie is a brilliant wife, mother, and advice columnist who takes matters into her own hands when a series of injustices forces her down the path of revenge, from #1 New York Times and international bestselling author McFadden.
“I read Dear Debbie in one sitting and am still pinching myself that Freida trusted Amazon and me with this incredible thriller. Debbie is the anti-hero women need right now, as Frieda has said, ‘she is an ode to unhinged women reclaiming their power’ and is a perfect fit for Strega Stories,” shared Girolamo.
Girolamo was previously the head of television for Alloy Entertainment, which has been a division of Warner Bros. Television since 2012. She served as executive vice president of television. Over the last two decades, Girolamo has worked at Working Title Television, Wonderland Sound & Vision, NBC Entertainment, and Universal Media Studios in addition to Alloy Entertainment.
Over the course of Girolamo’s career she executive produced You (Netflix), Gossip Girl (Max), Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin (Max), The Lying Game (ABC Family), The Nine Lives of Chloe King (ABC Family), The Secret Circle (The CW), How to Rock (Nickelodeon), 666 Park Avenue (ABC), The 100 (The CW), The Originals (The CW) and Legacies (The CW), and was the executive in charge of seminal comedies 30 Rock (NBC) and My Name is Earl (NBC) during her tenure at NBC. She is repped by McKuin Frankel Whitehead LLP.
McFadden’s novels have been translated into 45 languages and counting, and have become bestsellers worldwide. A native of New York City, Freida is a physician specializing in brain injury who lives with her family outside of Boston. She is repped by Cheng Caplan Company, Jane Rotrosen Agency, and Goodman Genow Schenkman.
