On the eve of New York Fashion Week, there was one runway that was already teeming with action. In the 100-plus-year-old beaux-arts-style building near City Hall that serves as New York County’s Surrogate’s Court, the music bounced off marble walls on Wednesday night as the audience slowly filled the chairs.

The models for the evening? Politicians from all over New York City, including the former governors Andrew M. Cuomo and David A. Paterson and one of Mr. Cuomo’s competitors in the upcoming mayoral election, Curtis Sliwa.

The prominent politicians were there for the second annual Style Across the Aisle event — a fashion show that bills itself as a bipartisan affair where politicians come together for a good cause. The event, which came on a day of increased political tension following the fatal shooting of Charlie Kirk in Utah, was founded by Skye Ostreicher, a former journalist who covered politics for City & State.

“We see what’s going on out there: the violence, the protests, people not getting along, just because of politics,” Ms. Ostreicher, who last year wore an “I Heart Cuomo” T-shirt in the Hamptons, said at the end of the show. “I know for a fact that every person here wants to collaborate and work together and reach across the aisle and move New York City forward.”
