The Miami Dolphins know things need to improve quickly ahead of their Week 2 matchup against the Buffalo Bills.
Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel, who has faced a lot of scrutiny for the abysmal performance against the Indianapolis Colts, knows things must be better moving forward. That improvement starts and ends with quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.
“I saw quarterback play that was less than to be desired, which Tua absolutely knows,” McDaniel said in a press conference on Wednesday. “He’s the captain and franchise QB, and everybody kind of fell victim to something similar… I don’t want to make the same mistakes twice. I don’t want things to happen for no reason or in vein… we need to be better collectively. He and everybody else needs to be better for us to get done what we need to get done.”
Tagovailoa has no excuses for his poor performances against the Colts, and McDaniel knows it. The offense must not only find ways to step up, but Tagovailoa must be able to work through his progressions, especially after Xavien Howard’s recent comments after Week 1. The Dolphins need him to turn it around sooner rather than later or else the season will quickly be lost.
McDaniel also knows if his franchise quarterback continues to perform poorly, his chair will continue to heat up and possibly lead to his firing. It’s a domino effect that all stems from Tagovailoa’s play starting Sunday.
