Gleyber Torres was welcomed back to Yankee Stadium on Tuesday night as the New York Yankees hosted the Detroit Tigers.

Torres received an ovation from the home crowd before his first at-bat. Torres spent seven seasons with the Yankees, being named an All-Star twice. He signed a one-year deal with the Tigers in the offseason and was named an All-Star for the first time since 2019.

Torres played over 850 games for the Yankees and was shown great respect in his return to Yankee Stadium. The Yankees’ official X account posted a tribute to Torres, which he saw and responded to.

“Thank you all for the love,” Torres wrote on X.

The Yankees’ post was captioned with a message thanking Torres for all of the memories he provided fans during his run with the team. Torres, 28, figures to be a free agent once again this offseason.

His All-Star season should set him up for more than just a one-year deal this time around. The Tigers will likely try to keep him around, but many teams could show interest in the now three-time All-Star.

Torres is hitting .260 this season, with 15 home runs and 67 RBIs. In his second season with the Yankees, he hit 38 home runs. While he has not been able to replicate that kind of power again, he has consistently had an OPS+ above 100.

Torres had a .795 postseason OPS with the Yankees. Although he was unable to help the team win a World Series, he was a key part of their success during his time with the team.
