Lionsgate’s The Housemaid, adapted from Freida McFadden’s best-seller, will be one of the last book adaptations to release in 2025. Originally it was set to go against Timothée Chalamet’s Marty Supreme at the box office, but now it will open against Avatar: Fire & Ash.

Originally, the drama thriller was poised to release on Christmas Day 2025, but now it will arrive December 19, 2025.
Who will be in the cast of The Housemaid?
Sydney Sweeney will star as Millie, a woman who starts over when she takes the job as a housemaid to wealthy, upscale couple Nina and Andrew, who have some sinister family secrets. Amanda Seyfried will play Nina. Deadline exclusively broke the news of their casting.
Deadline also exclusively reported that It Ends with Us and Drop star Brandon Sklenar will portray Andrew, and that Michele Morrone was cast.

When Sweeney’s Millie thinks she is getting a clean slate and escaping her past as a live-in housemaid for Nina and Andrew Winchester, she quickly finds that the upscale couple are hiding some skeletons. Some shocking twists and turns unravel in the suspenseful story.
Who else is behind The Housemaid?
A Simple Favor (2018) and Another Simple Favor (2024) director Paul Feig will helm the film. Rebecca Sonnenshine wrote the screenplay. Hidden Pictures’ Todd Lieberman will produce, and the company’s Carly Kleinbart Elter will oversee the project. Feigco’s Feig and Laura Fischer are also producing. Sweeney and Seyfried will executive producers alongside Alex Young and author McFadden.
