A Texas woman has delighted the internet by reuniting a mother dog with her puppy, sparking an emotional reunion that has been watched more than 280,000 times on TikTok.
Erin, 30, from Texas, first adopted 2-year-old Maggie, who had been rescued from a field where she was found with her only surviving puppy, Percy.
Both dogs were emaciated, and shelter staff believed Maggie had been used as a breeding dog before being abandoned with her litter. When rescuers arrived, only Percy remained by her side.
“I originally went to the shelter because I wanted a female dog and I saw Maggie,” Erin told Newsweek. “She and Percy were in the same cage together, but at the time I didn’t want a puppy so we only adopted Maggie.”
The black-and-white dog, originally named Magnolia, quickly won Erin over with her sweet nature. “When we brought her home, she was perfect—so well-behaved and amazing. We nicknamed her ‘Shaggy Maggie.’”
Going Back for Percy
But it was Erin’s fiancé who suggested they return for Percy. “He said if Maggie was so wonderful, her puppy must be too. At first I thought going from zero to two dogs was crazy,” Erin said. “But the next morning we were the first in line at the shelter. I picked Percy up and that was it—we fell in love again.”
Maggie came home on a Friday, and by Saturday, Percy—then just 3 months old—had joined the family. Now 7 months old, he is thriving alongside his mom.
In a video on TikTok, Erin shared when the two dogs were reunited in a moment filled with excited tail wags.
“They absolutely love each other and are always playing. Maggie is a cuddle bug who loves belly rubs, and Percy is a total mama’s boy,” Erin said.
Skeptics doubted their biological connection, but Erin confirmed their bond through a DNA test: Maggie and Percy are indeed mother and son.
Internet Reacts
The video of their reunion quickly went viral, drawing thousands of emotional comments. One TikTok user commented: “Maggie looking at you like really??? You brought me my baby?? You’re the best!!!” Another wrote: “All I do is cry on this app. Thank you for being a good human.”
For Erin, sharing their story has been just as meaningful as the moment itself. “Every time I showed the video to friends or family they would cry. I thought it was such a unique experience to be part of. Reading the comments has made me cry happy tears,” she said.
