EXCLUSIVE: Essential Film Group acquires sales rights to the action thriller Unarmed, starring Nicholas Chimera (Name the Demon), Tzi Ma (Mulan, Rush Hour), Kirk Acevedo (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes), and Martin Kove (Cobra Kai).
The film has just wrapped production in Chicago, Illinois.
Chimera plays Cole “Pretty Boy” Thomas, a rising MMA star who is unwittingly drawn into a violent criminal world. When a nightclub arms deal goes wrong and his sister is shot, Cole must choose a path: Walk away and let the violence spread….or fight back. Unarmed, outnumbered, and against impossible odds.
Others in the cast include Andrew Gray (Power Rangers Megaforce), Anji White (Marvel’s Ironheart), Clint Howard (Terrifier 3), Mike Manning (Beyond the Gates), Emily Marso (Chicago Med), and Jazz Jabulani (The Chi).
The film is directed by Carmelo Chimera (Sin Eater) and written by Nicholas Chimera, who also plays the lead. Both Chimera brothers are producing alongside Rob Menzies (Fatman), Jordan Gianneschi (The Crow), Jacob Rice (As I Lie Awake), Anjul Nigam (Murder at Yellowstone City), and Manning. Steven Tylor O’Connor and Becca McCracken handled casting.
Essential is handling worldwide sales. J2 Productions LLC and Chimera Studios are producing, in association with Mannifest Productions.
“Directing Unarmed brought together a cast and crew beyond my wildest dreams. I set out to make a movie that is poignant and action-packed, that can entertain and inspire at the same time,” Chimera said in a statement.
