A 57-year-old San Bernardino County woman has been arrested after authorities said the remains of her landlord were found on her property.
Mindy Kum, 72, a resident of Phelan was reported missing on Sept. 2, with family members telling investigators that they had last seen her in Tustin, according to a news release from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.
Homicide detectives with the department’s Specialized Investigations Division were notified of the missing persons investigation just two days later and learned that the 72-year-old’s last known whereabouts were in Phelan.
Detectives zeroed in on a residence in the 6400 block of Smoke Tree Lane owned by Kum and rented to Margaret Minier.
Investigators conducted a search of the property during which time human remains were found,” SBSD officials said. “As a result of the investigation, Minier was placed under arrest for the murder of Mindy.”
Authorities did not provide any details on the circumstances surrounding the alleged murder, nor did they say where the 72-year-old’s remains were located on the property.
It is also unclear if investigators know the motive behind the incident.
