The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a freeze warning for parts of northern Minnesota and frost advisories across North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa and Wisconsin as of early Sunday, cautioning that temperatures could fall into the low 30’s and produce frost that may damage vegetation.
Why It Matters
The agency warned that frost and freeze conditions could kill crops and sensitive outdoor plants, as well as posing a potential risk of damage for unprotected outdoor plumbing.
What To Know
The NWS Duluth office maintained a freeze warning, saying: “Sub-freezing temperatures as low as 30 [were] expected” for Koochiching, Central and North St. Louis counties. The warning remains in effect until 8 a.m. CDT Sunday and notes that “frost and freeze conditions could kill crops, other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing.”
The freezing point of water is 32 degrees Fahrenheit.
Additional frost advisories spanned parts of northwestern Iowa and Wisconsin, northeastern South Dakota, and most of North Dakota on Sunday morning.
The NWS Grand Forks office listed a frost advisory in effect until 8 a.m. CDT for portions of north central, northwest and west central Minnesota and northeast and southeast North Dakota, warning that temperatures in the low to mid 30’s would result in frost formation.

The agency said residents in affected areas should take steps to reduce tender plants from the cold, cautioning that sensitive outdoor plants could be killed if left uncovered.
