BURRILLVILLE, R.I. (WPRI) — The Rhode Island farmhouse made famous by the supernatural blockbuster “The Conjuring” has been listed for auction on none other than Halloween.

The antique homestead in the rural town of Burrillville has been listed on the auctioneer website JJManning Auctioneers under a “mortgagee’s foreclosure auction,” which is typically a public sale where a lender sells a property because a borrower has defaulted on their mortgage payments.

“This antique farmhouse that has become famous for historical paranormal sightings and activity,” auctioneers wrote in the listing.

The auction, which was confirmed by town officials on Friday, is scheduled on the website for Oct. 31, which is also Halloween. The date is fitting for the home that’s been a draw for paranormal enthusiasts from around the world.

The property — which includes eight-and-a-half acres of land — was last sold in 2022 to Bale Fire LLC for $1.5 million, according to land records. The company is controlled by Jacqueline Nuñez, a self-described medium, who has faced a litany of issues in the town over the past year.

After purchasing the property, Nuñez transformed it into a tourist attraction where people could come visit the property, explore for spirits and even stay overnight for a price. But problems started bubbling up last August when Nexstar’s WPRI first reported Nuñez fired her employee after she said the spirit of the farmhouse’s 19th century owner John Arnold told her the manager had been stealing.

The firing spurred a legal fight over backpay and resulted in other former workers coming forward alleging they also had faced issues working for Nuñez. Burrillville officials then revoked Nuñez’s entertainment license last November, saying there were issues with the property, along with her application with the town and her interactions with local police.

Nuñez, however, refused to cancel trips to the property that had already been scheduled, which ultimately left many visitors in a lurch and scrambling to recoup funds after spending hundreds and sometimes thousands of dollars to visit the property.

Nuñez has also had personal disputes with other people from the paranormal community, including “Ghost Hunters” TV star Jason Hawes, who ended up filing a police report alleging Nuñez was harassing him and his family.

Nuñez could not be immediately reached for comment Friday evening.

The latest development that the home is heading for auction, however, will likely come as welcomed news to comedian Matt Rife and YouTuber Elton Castee.

The two friends — who recently purchased the Connecticut home of famed paranormal investigators Ed and Loraine Warren — have been pushing to buy the “Conjuring” house.

Rife told WPRI last month: “As a fan of the paranormal, film, and the history of the property and the land it sits on, it’d be an honor to help preserve its beauty.”
