When the New England Patriots drafted TreVeyon Henderson in April, the fanbase believed they had their starting running back for this season and beyond.
So far, it’s been quite the opposite.
The rookie out of Ohio State saw just 24 snaps of the team’s opening game, according to ESPN’s Mike Reiss.

Fans were quick to share their frustrations on X.
“If the Patriots lose today it’s on Vrabel/McDaniels,” one fan wrote. “The old school style is not going to win in this league, and they need to be more aggressive on 3rd/4th down. Why does TreVeyon Henderson only have 5 carries when he is the best playmaker on the team?”
“Look, TreVeyon Henderson is electric, that doesn’t mean you give him nothing but dump offs,” another fan wrote. “This play-calling and Maye’s decision making is gonna lose this game.”
Yes, it’s just one week, and a lot can change. However, it’s easy to say head coach Mike Vrabel should have used his rookie running back more. Rhamondre Stevenson and Antonio Gibson didn’t do enough last season which is why the team drafted Henderson.
Even when Henderson was on the field, he didn’t get many touches as a runner or as a receiver out of the backfield. To utilize your second-round pick as little as the Patriots did on Sunday is concerning.
If New England wants any chance of taking steps forward this season, it has to find a way to get more out of Henderson as soon as possible.
