The Jacksonville Jaguars were hot on Travis Hunter’s trail as soon as the 2024 NFL campaign ended, and they pulled out all the stops to nab him by swinging a blockbuster draft day trade with the Cleveland Browns.
The Jaguars received the No. 2 overall pick in the deal and used that to select Hunter, arguably the best prospect in the entire draft class.

What makes Hunter such a generational talent is his ability to play both wide receiver and cornerback at an elite level, a unique set of skills he utilized to win the Heisman Trophy award during his final season at Colorado.
However, many have wondered if Hunter will actually be able to play both positions on the NFL level, and the Jaguars have provided a significant update on how they plan to use the 22-year-old during his rookie campaign, via ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
“The Jacksonville Jaguars are planning for Travis Hunter to be an ‘every-down wide receiver and situational corner’ in Sunday’s regular-season opener against the Carolina Panthers, league sources told ESPN on Saturday,” Schefter reported. “Although Hunter is expected to play more wide receiver than cornerback Sunday, it doesn’t mean that arrangement will hold in Week 2 or further into the season, according to sources.”
Schefter added that the Jaguars “plan to mix up Hunter’s usage throughout the season” and that there may be some weeks where he plays full-time at both wide receiver and cornerback. This probably depends on matchups.
It should also be noted that Hunter missed some time during training camp and preseason due to an upper body injury, so Jacksonville may be easing the highly-touted rookie into things.

Hunter hauled in 96 receptions for 1,258 yards and 15 touchdowns in 2024. He also totaled 36 tackles, four interceptions and 11 passes defended.
With Hunter, Brian Thomas Jr. and some other intriguing weapons, the Jaguars’ offense should be very interesting to watch in 2025 so long as Trevor Lawrence delivers under center.
