As if the San Francisco 49ers have not been dealing with enough injury issues at the moment, tight end George Kittle might now be sidelined for a while.
Kittle suffered a hamstring injury during his team’s season opener against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday and will not return to the game.

He logged four catches for 25 yards and a touchdown before exiting.
Kittle is obviously one of the pillars of the 49ers’ offense and has been so for nearly a decade now. He entered the league as a fifth-round draft pick back in 2017 and immediately established himself as a force, catching 43 passes for 515 yards and a couple of scores during his rookie campaign.
The University of Iowa product has gone on to make six trips to the Pro Bowl since, posting four 1,000-yard campaigns. Last year, Kittle hauled in 78 receptions for 1,106 yards and eight scores in 15 games.
San Francisco has been absolutely ravaged by injuries over the last couple of seasons. In 2024, the Niners were battered on both sides of the ball and ended up going 6-11 in spite of entering the campaign with Super Bowl aspirations.
This time around, the 49ers have been more affected on the offensive side of the ball. Brandon Aiyuk is recovering from a torn ACL, and up until recently, Jauan Jennings had been nursing a calf issue. Even running back Christian McCaffrey’s status was up in the air heading into Week 1.
If healthy, there is very little question that San Francisco could — and should — contend for a playoff spot and could absolutely win the NFC West, especially with the division not being particularly strong.

However, the Niners have simply been unable to keep their guys on the field since the beginning of 2024, which has put a damper on their hopes to finally win a championship.
The 49ers have made it to the Super Bowl twice over the last six years, but fell to the Kansas City Chiefs both times. That included a loss in February 2024.
