The Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Jets are set to square off in Week 1 NFL action on Sunday afternoon. In that game, Aaron Rodgers and Justin Fields will both be starting at quarterback against their former teams from last year.
As for Rodgers, this week will be the beginning of what he has said will be his final career season. If that is the case, he has just one more run at winning his second Super Bowl.
Joining the Steelers was an intriguing move for Rodgers. Pittsburgh is one of the most storied franchises in the NFL, but the team has been unable to find playoff success. Could Rodgers be the piece that takes them back to Super Bowl contention?

At 41 years old and turning 42 in December, no one knows what to expect from Rodgers. He’s no longer the elite superstar that he once was, but he was still very good individually last season with the Jets.
During the 2024 season in New York, Rodgers completed 63 percent of his pass attempts for 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. If he can replicate those numbers or potentially improve them, the Steelers will be in good shape.
Ahead of Week 1, a new update has been shared about Rodgers.
NFL insider Dianna Russini of The Athletic has reported that Rodgers put together a very good training camp and that he’s looking refreshed entering the 2025 season.
“The New York Jets on Sunday will face their former quarterback, Aaron Rodgers, who I’m told, has quietly had a phenomenal training camp for the Steelers,” Russini wrote. “Rodgers, according to folks I’ve talked with in Pittsburgh, looks refreshed, healthy, and ready to roll.”
Needless to say, that is huge news for the Steelers. There were videos that came out during training camp that showed Rodgers, with many comments thinking he looked slow. Perhaps that will end up being the case, but this report provides reason for optimism.

If Rodgers is truly healthy and refreshed, he could have a big year. Should he be able to turn back the clock a bit in 2025, Pittsburgh will be a serious contender in the AFC.
All of that being said, it will be interesting to see how Rodgers and the Steelers’ offense looks in Week 1. He will have a little extra motivation playing against his former team. This report suggests that Rodgers is in a great place and is ready to get back to winning football games at a high level.
