The Alpine F1 team and its driver, Pierre Gasly, have signed a new contract extension that locks their partnership until the end of 2028. The announcement comes ahead of the Italian Grand Prix qualifying session.

Gasly moved from AlphaTauri (now Racing Bulls) to Alpine in 2023, marking the beginning of a new chapter with a team that has since overcome several challenges, including a leadership overhaul and the setbacks relating to its F1 car, which is reportedly underpowered.

Gasly’s current contract was set to expire at the end of 2026, the year when F1 enters a new era of regulations. However, it seemed like both parties were eager to extend their relationship. Announcing the contract extension, the team stated:

“The deal reaffirms Pierre’s commitment to Alpine and cements Alpine’s belief in Pierre as the driver to lead the team into the new regulation era in 2026 and beyond, under the leadership of Flavio Briatore and with the full backing of Renault Group led by the new CEO Francois Provost.”

Gasly added:

“I’m thrilled to commit my long-term future to Alpine. As a Frenchman, especially, driving for a French car company, makes me feel very proud. Since I joined in 2023, I have always felt that this team is the right place to be for the future.

“Flavio’s [Briatore] support and belief in me, François’ [Provost] commitment to the Formula One project, as well as the people we have in Enstone made this a natural decision and I want to be here in years to come and deliver on our joint objective: to win races and world championships. We’re all in this together and I look forward to continuing this special story.”

Alpine’s senior advisor and interim team principal Flavio Briatore said:

“Since I returned to the team, I have always stated how important it is to build and grow the competitiveness of BWT Alpine Formula One Team. We’re well prepared for the new era of Formula One, beginning in 2026, and now we have our lead driver confirmed to bring us well into the future.

“Pierre has been an immense asset for the team during this challenging period. I have been very impressed with his attitude, dedication and talent and we look forward to continuing this project together for a long time.”

While Gasly’s place has been cemented at Alpine for the next three seasons, it remains uncertain as to who will occupy the seat next to his in 2026. His current teammate, Franco Colapinto, does not have a contract signed for the next year, as he struggles to adapt to the current A525 F1 car.
