Florida A&M (0–1) opened its season with a narrow 10–9 loss to Howard in the Orange Blossom Classic. The Rattlers’ offense struggled to find rhythm, managing to score only on field goals. Quarterback RJ Johnson III threw for 183 yards but was unable to lead the team into the end zone. The defense kept the game close, allowing only 10 points, but the offense’s inability to capitalize was the main issue in the loss.
Florida Atlantic (0–1) also lost its opener, falling 39-7 to Maryland. The Owls must show improvement on both sides of the ball. Quarterback Caden Veltkamp threw for 228 yards and a touchdown, but also threw four interceptions in the game. Turnovers and missed opportunities in the red zone hindered their scoring efforts.
