Jonathan Kuminga is the best trade asset for the Golden State Warriors, and it appears the team is reportedly open to dealing the forward — under one condition.

Brett Siegel of Clutch Points explained the type of return the Warriors are looking for if they were to trade Kuminga.
“If there was a trade that brought them draft compensation and a young talent to replace Kuminga, the Warriors would’ve been open to said deal, sources said,” Siegel writes. “But that’s the problem — this type of trade was never offered to the Dubs despite the Sacramento Kings and Phoenix Suns expressing strong interest in Kuminga.”
The Warriors have been reluctant to accept any sign-and-trade offers, specifically from the Kings and Suns. Golden State has evidently not received any enticing offers in exchange for Kuminga, and the team seems insistent on resolving the contract situation with the forward before filling out the rest of the roster.
Any sign-and-trade offers no longer seem like an option amid this ongoing saga.

Ideally, the Warriors would want Kuminga to sign the two-year, $45 million deal, which includes a team option for the second year.
The 22-year-old’s second option is to accept the one-year, $7.9 million qualifying offer from the Warriors. The qualifying offer would make it difficult for Golden State to flip Kuminga before February’s trade deadline.
Kuminga would be taking a pay cut, but it seems to be the better option for the forward as he would be able to test the free agent market following the 2025-26 season.
Both the Warriors and Kuminga have not made any progress in contract negotiations since the offseason began, but a decision will have to be made as NBA training camp is in four weeks and the Oct. 1 deadline to accept the qualifying offer is less than a month away.
Last season, Kuminga averaged 15.3 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game while shooting 45.4 percent from the field and 30.5 percent from beyond the arc in 47 games.
It remains to be seen whether Kuminga will be on the Warriors roster by the start of the 2025-26 season.
