EXCLUSIVE: Reps and managers have gotten the deal over the line – and a long-awaited Call My Agent! movie is happening. The core cast from the original French series are back and series creator-writer-showrunner Herrero has penned the screenplay. Speaking exclusively to us as she accepted the Deadline French TV Disruptor Award, Herrero shared her excitement about the project finally coming together. Confirming a film is in the works she said: “I can just say the writing is done. So now, yes, it’s on its way.”
It turns out that getting the ensemble back together presented a logistical puzzle with the actors in such demand following the success of the original series. Diaries have been cleared, however, and the talent agents are getting back into business.
“I’m so happy to write for them again,” Herrero said. “They are so inspiring, I love them all. And the fact that I left and it’s been almost five years now since the last season was released, [makes] it so good to be back again together.”
The ensemble comedy followed goings on at a fictional Parisian talent agency called ASK. It took in the lives of the reps and their clients with a starry roster of guest stars appearing as versions of themselves. Talent appearing included Monica Bellucci, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Béatrice Dalle, and Jean Reno, while U.S. star Sigourney Weaver appeared in the show’s final season.
Herrero wrote Seasons 1 through 3 before leaving ahead of the fourth and final run on France Televisions amid creative tensions. Herrero did not share details about the studio or platform, plot, or guest-star names for the movie, but the expectation is that there will be big-name guest talent.
The show won the International Emmy for Best Comedy and was a hit on French TV before coming to global attention on Netflix. Local versions of the series have followed in in countries including Italy, India, Canada, Turkey, and the UK, where it was on Amazon’s Prime Video. A German version was has been announced for Disney+ and Eva Longoria is making a Spanish-language adaptation.
Camille Cottin, Thibault de Montalembert, Grégory Montel, Liliane Rovère, Fanny Sidney, Laure Calamy, and Nicolas Maury all starred in the series. Paying tribute to her original cast as the movie comes together, Herrero added: “I’m so proud of all of them. We built something together that changed our lives, so we have this in common forever.”
The original show was produced by Mediawan label Mon Voisin Productions and Mother Production. There have been several false dawns with reports about a new series or movie circulating for years. This time it’s actually happening. Production will commence this year, which suggests a 2026 release.
