With the Detroit Lions on their regular-season schedule for Week 1, the Green Bay Packers want to make a serious statement in the NFC North. However, concerns lingered due to some of the players listed on their injury report.
The Week 1 matchup included several players listed as questionable, including cornerback Nate Hobbs and receivers Jayden Reed and Dontayvion Wicks.
In addition, defensive star Micah Parsons, whom the team recently acquired, was questionable with a back injury, and Jordan Love was dealing with a thumb issue.
With Love’s injury, some fans may have thought that quarterback Malik Willis might take over to guide the team in their first game of the season.

On Friday, the team received several updates regarding some of their injured players’ statuses for the upcoming Lions game.
According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, Jordan Love fully participated in practice once again. He was also off the injury report and will start in Sunday’s game.
Along with Love, center Elgton Jenkins, who had been dealing with a hip injury, will be able to play in the season opener.
On Thursday, Packers head coach Matt LaFleur said that Love couldn’t hand off the ball with his left hand and indicated the offense could be limited schematically due to Love’s injury situation.
This marks Love’s third-straight season as Green Bay’s starting quarterback, who started all 17 games in 2023. He missed two games early in 2024 after suffering an MCL sprain in Week 1 against the Philadelphia Eagles in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Love is looking to get the team off to a 1-0 start and improve upon last season’s 9-6 record, which included reaching the playoffs and losing to the Eagles in an NFC Wild Card game.
In addition to Wicks, Parsons, and Hobbs, other players limited by injuries included wide receiver Savion Williams, safety Zayne Anderson, and defensive end Barryn Sorrell.
LaFleur seemed positive on the chances for the other players beyond Love and Jenkins to play in Sunday’s game. As of this report, the Packers are the favorites by 2.5 points at home against the Lions for their Week 1 matchup.
