Actor and comedian Rob Schneider is promoting “Tears of the Left,” a whiskey brand targeted at supporters of President Trump’s Make America Great Again (MAGA) movement.
Newsweek contacted Tears of the Left and Schneider for comment via online inquiry form and email respectively on Friday outside of regular office hours.
Why It Matters
A number of companies have launched products explicitly aimed at conservative Americans, sometimes following claims more traditional corporations have become biased towards the left, or gone “woke.”
In 2023, Ultra Right Beer, marketed as “100 percent woke-free,” was launched by Big Kettle Brewing. The move came after conservative activists initiated a boycott campaign targeted at Bud Light, after the company partnered with transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney.
In response, musician Kid Rock released footage of himself shooting at a stack of Bud Light cans, while country music star Travis Tritt said he world be removing all products from Bud Light producer Anheuser-Busch from his tour hospitality rider.
What To Know
On Thursday, Schneider shared an advert for Tears of the Left on X, which featured a picture of him holding a bottle of the whiskey along with the taglines “Liberals Have Great Tears” and “100% Kentucky Bourbon. 0% Safe Space.”
The comedian added: “This is REAL…Go to http://TearsOfTheLeft.com and get a bottle!”
According to its official website, Tears of the Left is produced in Kentucky by Grain & Barrel Spirits which is based out of Charleston, South Carolina.
The ingredients list says Tears of the Left contains 70 percent corn, 21 percent rye and nine percent malted barley and its taste is described as: “Soft oak upfront, evolving into toasted oak lactones.” It is listed as containing 45.47 percent alcohol, a likely reference to Donald Trump being the 45th and 47th president of the United States.
Tears of the Left is for sale in five different “editions” each of which costs $89.99 per bottle which includes free shipping.
The editions are “Commie Tear Stone,” “Snowflake Tear Stone,” “Globalist Tear Stone,” “Feminist Tear Stone” and “DEI [Diversity, equity and inclusion] Tear Stone.” Each edition comes in slightly different packaging.
Alternatively all five editions, along with an unspecified “free gift,” can be purchased for $449.95.
Schneider initially rose to fame as a cast member on NBC‘s Saturday Night Live. He has become an outspoken critic of “cancel culture” and endorsed Trump ahead of the 2024 presidential election.
After Trump won the 2024 election, a number of major companies announced they were cancelling or cutting back diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives including McDonald’s, Walmart and Amazon.
What People Are Saying
On Thursday the official Tears of the Left X account wrote: “The woke mob just found out Rob Schneider is the first Legend in the Tears of the Left Bourbon series… and the crying is flowing faster than CNN‘s ratings drop.
“They’re howling that a legendary comedian dared to laugh at them, and now Liberal Twitter is demanding group therapy. Tear of the Left has bottled their outrage, aged it in American oak, and turned it into something worth toasting. They bottle their feelings, slap ‘oppression’ on the label, and call it a ‘movement.’ So keep sobbing, snowflakes. Every meltdown just makes the next batch stronger.”
What Happens Next
The continued size and vibrancy of Trump’s MAGA movement make it likely that more companies will attempt to access this market, including via explicitly conservative branded products, going forward.
