FLORENCE, Ala. (WHNT) — Two men from Tennessee were arrested in Florence for using stolen and fraudulent debit/credit cards at Sam’s Club.
On September 2, Florence police officers responded to Sam’s Club, on 364 Cox Creek Parkway, after receiving a report from a resident saying their credit/debit card had been used without permission.
Sam’s Club loss prevention personnel were able to identify the suspects through security camera footage. Officers quickly found two men near a large Penske box truck, where they were observed loading merchandise.
Both individuals were detained, and the Florence Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division responded to the scene.
The investigation revealed that the suspects, identified as 47-year-old Jermaine Antonio Todd and 31-year-old James David Logan III, were using stolen credit card numbers and fraudulent Sam’s Club membership cards while mobile scanning items on their cell phones to make purchases. The suspects purchased approximately $9,600 worth of merchandise from Sam’s Club using credit/debit card fraudulently.
It was further determined that the pair are connected to a larger organized theft ring operating throughout the southeastern United States that target several big box retailers. Additional Sam’s Club locations in Huntsville, AL, and Southaven, MS, have also been targeted by this group.
Todd and Logan are each charged with five counts of Fraudulent use of Credit/Debit Card and one count of Organized Retail Theft.
“This is a significant arrest for our agency, and we commend our officers and detectives for their quick response in ensuring these suspects were taken into custody,” FPD said.
