DECATUR, Ala. (WHNT) — “I wanted this song to feel honest, raw, and resonant,” Lamont Landers, a Decatur native, said as he released his new single, “America”.

“It’s a piece of who I am, and I hope it connects with people on a personal level.”

The track, layered with grooves, handclaps, and church organ tones, offers what Landers calls “a snapshot of life in the modern world, the frustration, the reflection, and the resilience.”

In “America”, Landers doesn’t hold back his feelings:

“Can’t afford my rent / Lord, I can’t afford to buy / And the government / Lord, is only selling lies / Nothing to protect / Has the dream just passed us by? / We’re just beating on our chest / Just trying to stay alive / This is America, in the modern world…”

“I didn’t want to get too political,” Landers explains, “but there’s tension everywhere no matter where you stand. It feels like we’ve hit a boiling point. This song is my way of capturing that feeling and turning it into music people can connect with.”

Landers’s rise has been anything but ordinary.

“A viral video of my cover of ‘Hit The Road Jack’ changed everything overnight,” he recalls.

That moment led to appearances on America’s Got Talent and Showtime at the Apollo, before catching the attention of GRAMMY®-winning producer Dave Cobb, who signed him to his MCA imprint, Lucille.

Questlove himself amplified Landers’ reach after reposting his take on “Rubber Band Man.”

“Moments like that reminded me that staying true to my sound can still break through all the noise,” says Landers.

Blending soul, rock, and R&B, Landers has become known for electrifying guitar work and powerhouse vocals.

“For me, it’s always been about telling real stories with real emotion,” he says. “That’s what keeps me pushing forward.”

“America” is streaming now on all platforms. Fans can follow his journey at www.lamontlanders.com.
