EXCLUSIVE: Sian Clifford (Fleabag) and Mark Bonnar (Dept. Q) have joined Ludwig Season 2 as cameras roll.
Bonnar will play newspaper editor Gareth Fisher and Clifford is local MP Joanne Kemper, while Ben Ashenden (Deep Cover) and Rumi Sutton (After the Flood) are also aboard.
Filming is underway on Ludwig Season 2, which stars David Mitchell in the title role. Season 1 of the comedy-drama was the BBC’s biggest scripted show of last year and the biggest launch for a comedy since at least 2018, attracting more than 9.5 million viewers across 28 days. On BritBox, it is the number one season premiere in total viewership and unique viewers this year.
The show sees the master-puzzler protagonist work on ‘impossible’ crimes in place of his brother. In Season 2 he no longer has to masquerade as his brother but his twin is still missing. Now that he’s an official employee of the station, John is forbidden from using any police resources to look for his brother or uncover exactly what he was investigating. The show also stars Anna Maxwell Martin, Dipo Ola, Dylan Hughes, Dorothy Atkinson, Ralph Ineson and Karl Pilkington.
The news comes with Mitchell’s sketch show, Mitchell and Webb are not Helping, set to launch tomorrow night on Channel 4.
Ludwig is a Big Talk Studios production in association with That Mitchell And Webb Company, in co-production with BritBox and ZDF, for the BBC. It is produced in association with ITV Studios, which also handles international distribution. The series was commissioned for BBC One and BBC iPlayer by Jon Petrie, BBC Director of Comedy Commissioning. Season 2 is again written by Mark Brotherhood, and the directors are George Kane (episodes 1,2 & 3) and Stella Corradi (episodes 4, 5 & 6). The executive producers are Kenton Allen and Toby Welch for Big Talk Studios, Mark Brotherhood, Mitchell, Kathryn O’Connor, Chris Sussman; Robert Schildhouse and Stephen Nye for BritBox; and Claus Wunn and Frank Seyberth for ZDF. The producer is Georgie Fallon, with Anya Wilson serving as co-producer. Commissioning editor for the BBC is Tanya Qureshi.
