Just days after taking in a terrified dog, a rescue organization was amazed to see that they wouldn’t just be caring for her—but also the nine puppies that she welcomed days later.
Robin Morrison, owner of nonprofit Pawsitively Posh Pet Resort & Spa, is determined to help as many animals in need as she can. So, when she spotted a dog called Maple at animal control on August 14, Morrison, of Chuckey, Tennessee, didn’t hesitate to step in and offer the sweet pup safe shelter and care.
It was clear that 3-year-old Maple was pregnant when they took her in, as Morrison told Newsweek that it was “one of the main reasons” they wanted to help her.
“She was absolutely mortified when we picked her up,” Morrison said. “She is deathly scared of leashes and was defecating on herself and our staff when trying to transport her. She was screaming and she was so scared.”
The fear that Maple had in those early days was simply “heartbreaking to see,” and the staff at Pawsitively Posh did everything they could to help her feel comfortable.
Indeed, just 10 days after being rescued, Maple had a surprise in store. In the early hours of August 24, she delivered nine healthy puppies, eight girls and just one boy.
Morrison continued: “We were so thrilled to see the puppies. We knew she was due soon, so we were anticipating her puppies any day after we rescued her. She started giving birth to her puppies (we assume) at around 4 am, and was in labor for hours before she stopped at about 9 am.
“Maple is doing great after her big delivery. She is the best momma, and the puppies are all very healthy and starting to look like fat little piggies.”
After welcoming her litter, Maple certainly looked pleased with herself (after all, why shouldn’t she?). The rescue shared a video on Instagram (@pawsitivelyposhpetresort) showing Maple smiling and wagging her tail as she showed off her “miracle 9.”
The video has melted so many hearts online, leading to more than 11,600 views and over 450 likes on Instagram at the time of writing. Many internet users have praised Morrison and her team for saving Maple’s life and those of her puppies too.
Although it hasn’t led to much interest just yet, Morrison hopes it will help generate some adoption inquiries, so that each of the dogs can start happy new lives.
Morrison started the Pawsitively Posh Pet Resort as a luxury boarding, daycare and grooming facility. However, as the need to help animals without loving homes became increasingly apparent, the team’s mission shifted towards establishing a nonprofit that would provide shelter, medical care, and love to animals who need it most.
“Although we love our momma Maple, we are hoping to find her a forever home and someone who will be patient with her and give her all the love she can possibly absorb,” Morrison told Newsweek.
She continued: “We are in desperate need of funds, loving fosters and adopters. We have around 35 rescue cats, 50 rescue dogs, and pay to have them all vetted, rehabilitated, and monthly preventatives while feeding all of these animals a high-quality diet.”
Social media users have loved seeing Maple so happy and healthy, as many took to the comments section to share their thoughts.
One comment reads: “Awwh she looks so happy.”
Another Instagram user wrote: “Maple has some beautiful babies!”
