San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Jauan Jennings has been searching for a new deal with the team, as he is in the final year of his contract. The hope was that a deal was going to get done by the time Week 1 rolled around.

Many believed that Jennings’ not practicing had to do with a contract holdout, though that was never corroborated by 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan. In fact, Jennings has been dealing with a lingering calf injury that kept him out of action through preseason.
The good news is Jennings is expected to take the field when the 49ers take on the Seattle Seahawks in Week 1. Divisional rival games are never easy, and the team desperately needs all the help it can get in terms of pass catchers.
On top of the news that Jennings should be ready to suit up, the 49ers have made a major decision on his current contract status, giving him a new incentive-laced deal.

Per multiple reports, Jennings has added $3 million in play-time incentives to his current $7.5 million deal. He can now make up to $10.5 million based on performance in 2025.
Jennings may have been hoping for a long-term deal, but this new contract solution can essentially act as a “prove it” deal. Should he exceed expectations in 2025, the 49ers organization might bring him on for longer.

The other good news for Jennings is that his deal also states that he will be an unrestricted free agent in 2026. Should the 49ers offer him a deal he does not agree with, he can choose to sign for bigger money with a new team.
This new contract is essentially a win-win situation for both parties. If Jennings has a good season, he can seek a long-term deal with the 49ers or with another team willing to pay him a higher amount.
Should Jennings underperform, the 49ers won’t have to worry about the cap hit a new deal would have led to. Hopefully, Jennings can have a solid year, and help propel the team back to the playoffs.

Jennings secured 975 yards and five touchdowns through 15 games. A year of over 1,000 yards would help to secure a new long-term deal for the pass catcher.
