MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WHNT) — Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser posted on ‘X’ that he’s prepared to challenge the move of Space Command in court. But Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall responded in his own post, saying, “…we’re not sweating it.”
Other state officials have similar convictions following President Donald Trump’s announcement this week.
“Trump is trying to grab power ahead of the 2026 elections,” said Jena Griswold, Colorado Secretary of State. “And, is directly attacking our democracy.”
“President Trump moved Space Command in the final four days of his first administration, overruling the Air Force,” said Sen. Michael Bennet (D-Colorado).
Colorado leaders are pushing back on the relocation of Space Command. But Rep. Rex Reynolds (R-Huntsville) said the deputy commander at Redstone Arsenal is already talking with his counterparts at Peterson Space Force Base.
“They’ve got a plan,” Reynolds said. “He’s prepared and ready to go. He saw this coming. He felt like this was gonna end up in this direction. And he said, literally, if he got the call to stand it up here in Huntsville at midnight tonight, he could do so.”
Now that it’s official, Congressman Robert Aderholt (R-AL) said he expects personnel to move down south soon. And, while the base is in Huntsville, Aderholt explained the whole state will feel the impact.
“I would expect the President will want to move on this very quickly, because this has been sort of- been in a holding pattern,” Aderholt said. I would expect in the next few months you’ll see things happening around the Redstone Arsenal area.”
While Huntsville is poised for growth, Rep. Marilyn Lands (D-Huntsville) said she wants to make sure that work continues.
“We’re very excited about it. And, looking forward to doing what we need to do to be sure that our infrastructure is in place to support this growth,” said Lands.
Rep. Reynolds said money has already been allocated by Congress in the “Big, Beautiful Bill” for engineering and design work at the base.
