Two Los Angeles Fire Department vehicles were involved in back-to-back crashes at the same Reseda intersection Wednesday morning, first an ambulance carrying a patient, then a battalion chief’s truck responding to that collision, officials said.
The first crash happened around 9:06 a.m. at the intersection of Vanowen Street and Lindley Avenue, where an LAFD rescue ambulance collided with another vehicle in a busy intersection while en route to a hospital.
Authorities did not immediately confirm whether the ambulance was hit, but footage from the scene showed it appeared to have been T-boned by a light gray sedan. No injuries were reported in that crash, and a second ambulance arrived to complete the patient’s transport, according to fire officials.
Then, around 9:47 a.m., an LAFD battalion chief responding to investigate the crash was also involved in a collision at the same intersection — this time with a dark gray sedan.
Sky5 video of the aftermath showed the dark gray sedan stopped in the roadway with possible front-end damage while the fire department truck was parked behind. Debris, including what appeared to be part of the sedan’s bumper, was scattered across the lanes around the two vehicles.
Despite the back-to-back crashes, no serious injuries were reported. The only person transported to the hospital was the patient already inside the first ambulance.
The scene left the busy San Fernando Valley intersection partially blocked late Wednesday morning. Traffic cones and patrol cars diverted drivers as firefighters and police worked around the damaged vehicles.
Both collisions remain under investigation by LAFD and the Los Angeles Police Department. Drivers are advised to avoid the intersection of Vanowen and Lindley until the roadway fully reopens.
